Getting together for a family reunion is a very special event. Some families hold them every year, but these are generally families in which most of the members live in a relatively small geographic area. Many families, however, are spread out across the entire country making annual gatherings logistically difficult if not outright impossible. For these families, a real family reunion is a relatively rare event and may involve significant effort on the part of those travelling from afar as well as on those more local to the site of the event who may end up planning and hosting the reunion.

Planning a family reunion can be a difficult task. Finding a date that suits everyone’s busy schedule can be the hardest part. Often the only way to achieve this, is to choose a date far in advance, sometimes a year or more. If a family member can’t plan for a date with a year’s notice, then they are most likely using scheduling difficulty as an excuse not to attend.

If the family reunion is a rare event, it should be memorable. Many times, the organizers will provide a souvenir or two of the event for all the participants. Etched glasses, however, offer much more creativity. First, like a custom T-shirt, the glasses can display any message that is suitable for the event. For example, the date and the name of the event such as “Smith Family Reunion, July 7th, 2009” can be printed along with some motto or theme of the event like “Great Grandpa Turns 110!” or “Across the miles.”

In addition to the name and date of the event, custom engraved glasses for Carol and Ted and their two children might consist of two large glasses and two smaller tumblers representing the family group. As part of the preparation for the event, the hosts could put each set of family glasses grouped around a family photo of each nuclear family. Taking it one step further, men might be represented with a big old beer mug, while the ladies might receive an etched wine glass or perhaps a margarita glass. Children might get water tumblers so that each glass is not only etched with the person’s name, but represents the people themselves.
